Fraser was grateful to have his body back. It was nice to have a familiar center of gravity again. Fraser was celebrating this fact by...doing some light reading of the criminal court case precedent variety.

It was a hobby.

Fraser wasn't hiding. Really. His office was comfortable and it wasn't weird that he'd been up before Robin after going to sleep after her.

Just coincidence, really.

He hoped this was almost over.

Since they were no longer in Antarctica and Fraser knew just how happy that made Robin, he decided to take her out. Of course, his version of taking her out meant hiking boots and comfortable clothing and a backpack full of picnic things.

It was romantic...in an outdoorsy sort of way and the rainforest they were currently walking through was amazingly beautiful.

It hadn't been a very chatty walk home. Fraser was tired, worried, tired, and still very disoriented to really want to talk too much.

As it was now, he was leaning heavily against the door and fumbling with his keys to get it open. He wanted to be home though. He had to check for himself that everything was still there.

When Fraser looked at her, he didn't see anything but coldness. When Fraser touched her, she jerked away, sneered.

He didn't know what he'd done.

It didn't matter, she was going to tell him. She'd gotten what she'd wanted from him. Sex. A babysitter. A patsy. And now she was done.

She patted his cheek as she walked out. Took the dogs. Took everything. She even waved at him. He'd been good for what she wanted, she'd taken, she was done.

Fraser watched her ago. And when the door slammed shut, when things were quiet again, he didn't know what to do.

Fraser had fallen asleep a few hours ago, sprawled on his stomach with one arm across Robin's side. The dogs were around the bed, sleeping as well with one minor exception.

Minor exception's name being Popcorn who was sleeping on Fraser's back, all curled up against his t-shirt and out like a light.

Fraser had meant to stay up, to make Robin some dinner but he'd been too tired to resist the pull of sleep.

He saw his mother. It was....amazing to see her, healthy and...disappointed.

He called her name.

"You are not my son," she said, voice hard. He remembered that tone from times he'd gotten in trouble, times he'd done wrong. Never had he heard that tone with those words.

"But, I am." He didn't even recognize the shaking in his own voice.

"No. You are weak," she said, almost hissing the word. "No son of mine lets himself be used and manipulated. No son of mine proves just how easy he is by submitting to the wills of those around him."

"I...it's helpful." Even he sounded as if he didn't believe it. "Mother, please."

She reared up and it was almost as if she were eleven feet tall. He cowered. "Never address me again. Never."

He whimpered. "But. I love you."

"I don't love you," she retorted, voice sharp as a knife. "No one does."

Those words echoed in his ears, left him crying. He didn't hear her leave. He just knew he was alone.

The train was almost empty. He was slouched next to Victoria, coat pulled high to hide his face. Victoria was whispering in his ear, rubbing his back and telling him everything would be all right.

An older passenger walked by and stared at him, eyes cold. Fraser wilted, trying to hide further under his coat.

Victoria's voice was still in his ear, telling him he'd done the right thing and she'd be rich. Fraser turned to her, tried to understand.

But, she was gone. The train slowed to a stop. Fraser looked out the window, saw whiteout conditions and wondered how he'd gotten to Canada.

"Victoria?" His yell reverberated off the walls of the empty train. "Hello?"

No answer.

His coat was thin, far too light to sustain in a blizzard but he tried the train doors anyway. They slid open just barely, sending in freezing tendrils of cold air.

Fraser stumbled back, shocked at the chill.

There were words on the wall in front of him, written in loopy scrawl. He recognized the writing.

-You were good for one thing. And now I'm done with you.-

Fraser blinked, brushed some of the snow coming in from the open doorway out of his eyes. The snow got thicker and, when Fraser turned to the door, he discovered it wide open. The wind whipped dangerously, snow flying in with enough speed to sting when it landed on his face.

Fraser moved to huddle underneath a seat. It didn't help much. Everything burned.

More whispers. Victoria's voice again. Soothing him. Telling him he had his uses and, though small, they were helpful but he was no longer needed.

His father's voice.

Agreeing with Victoria.

Fraser closed his eyes against the blizzard. There was a drift forming in front of him. He didn't care.

Victoria's voice, calling him a good boy. Condescending. His father cheerfully saying that his son was the epitome of a victim.

The snow continued until Fraser couldn't see. Couldn't breathe.

He didn't want to.

With the week nearing completion and most of his work done, Fraser came into the office just in case anyone needed to see him.

Oddly enough, he'd been feeling casual this morning and was wearing jeans and a flannel shirt. There was a first for everything, apparently.

Dief had been confused initially but sleep had won out and he was now asleep in front of the desk. Fraser was straightening bookshelves and shredding documents.

The door was open.

He'd made the wrong choice. That much was blindingly clear as soon as he'd gotten on that train. He knew it was wrong.

They'd stripped him of his rank. Victoria, Victoria herself had burned his patches and melted his badge down to scrap metal.

And she'd laughed.

Robin looked so disappointed. He didn't know why she was there. But, he couldn't look at her. Didn't want to see that in her eyes.

She stepped closed, told him that Canada didn't want men who couldn't keep it in their pants for a woman. Didn't want men who bypassed their country for a little ass.

He'd made the wrong choice.

They took Dief away. More punishment. Took him and kenneled him. He'd died slowly.

He'd made the wrong choice.

They took away everything from him. Made him a man lower than dirt because he'd let himself think love was more powerful than anything. That someone could love him that much.

Wrong choice.

He tried to cry. There weren't any tears.

There was a gun. The handle was cold.

With the week finally over, Fraser hoped that spending the weekend not keeping busy wouldn't come back to haunt him. So far, he'd managed to avoid thinking about anything too bad, had managed a small, quick nap, and hadn't had to watch Robin like hawk since she was no longer drunk.

He'd tease her about that sometime. He'd have to. It was too funny not to.

In the mean time, he was sitting on the couch, legs stretched out in front of him and not paying attention to the movie that he'd turned on.

Fraser had debated staying late at work, getting things done that had languished while he was out of town and, thusly, avoiding everything else that he knew he had to face.

He pushed open the front door, already unbuttoning his jacket and hanging up his hat.

Since school wasn't in session and they were still in Greece (which was unbelievable), Fraser was a little more likely to agree to going out and exploring.

And that's what'd brought them here. He'd chosen it after sifting through a travel guide, looking for something quiet and less populated so a child was less likely to kick sand on them. Well, he was more concerned about Robin because she'd kick sand back. And she'd be better at it.

The last time he'd been to the beach it'd been freezing and he'd been trying to impress someone. Now, it was warm and nice and he wasn't trying to impress someone.

He almost half expected Robin to be in his office when he opened the door. She wasn't but there was a note on his desk. He picked it up, read it and then had to think for a minute about what she was hinting to.

It wasn't that hard to figure it out. So, paying careful attention to the door, he reached under his desk and found the next note.

He laughed at the last one, narrowing the person in question down to two men before looking at the gifts. The conversion calculator was odd but it'd be useful and beneficial. Still, an odd gift. And jet lag pills could always be beneficial even if he could just loan them out to others to use.

Still, a luggage tag, a conversion calculator and jet lag pills. Was she trying to tell him she'd flown away and he was going to have to travel a ways to find her?

Hmm.

As soon as Fraser opened his eyes, he knew what day it was. And, just for awhile, he wanted to ignore that. So, he rolled over, intending to reach for the other person in the bed and cuddle up to her.

Except, all he got was an armful of pillow and blanket and the rear end of one of the dogs. He blinked his eyes open, looking around the room and frowned.

It was quiet and dark and she was nowhere around.

"Robin?" Nope, no answer save for Dorito moving off the bed, somewhat perturbed by getting grabbed so early in the morning.

He stumbled out of bed, stubbed his toe on the bedpost, jumped around and nearly fell into the dresser. Of course, that was lucky because that's where he found the first note and gift.

"Huh," he said after reading the note, smiling like a dork and examining the very finely made luggage tag. "I guess I should play her game."

And off he went to shower and change and head to his office, feeling very grateful that she'd mentioned the gift wasn't at the hotel. He really didn't want to go to the mainland today.

Fraser would blame his current line of thinking entirely on a series of coincidences that had started Sunday and just hadn't let up the entirety of the week. He thought he'd done an admirable job of covering it up, for the most part, and only really thinking about it while at work.

After waiting until he'd seen Robin leave, Fraser, several bags, and a wiggling bundle of fur had sneaked back into the apartment to set up and hope she wasn't just stepping out briefly.

The other dogs greeted him immediately, pouncing and trying to get at the puppy. The puppy yipped and squirmed in Fraser's arms enough that he had to set him down. The other dogs, bless them, didn't pounce the puppy. They sniffed at him and nosed at him but were actually very gentle.

Fraser then took a quick shower and changed into a suit and tie (all black) and applied a pink party hat. He thought he looked rather spiffy.

The apartment was then decorated with balloons and a giant HAPPY BIRTHDAY banner. The two other gifts he'd gotten her were placed on the coffee table.

And now, the most difficult task. Fraser set to work applying red bows to each dogs collar. After making sure Pickles didn't eat his and the new puppy didn't tear his up, Fraser brought the puppy and all his supplies and stowed him in the bedroom. That was her big surprise, after all.

The other dogs stayed out and ran around like they knew something was going on. He pulled out the bottle of wine he'd purchased and...was finished. Now, he just had to wait.

Fraser's plan after getting back from New York included retrieving the dogs from Tino (as he'd been the best dogsitter on short notice), taking them home, spending time with them, showering and waiting.

Waiting for however long it took.

He managed to get through the first four things successfully. When it came to wait, he propped himself up on the couch, one arm resting on the armrest, head in his hand, determined to wait for as long as it took.

He hadn't meant to fall asleep but he'd gotten so little sleep, he'd gone through some underground cavern directly out of Wade's mind, had been tranquilized and fallen through a floor and it'd just been such a long week. He vaguely felt Sprinkles jump up on the couch and curl up half in his lap.

His feet, it should be noted, were not on the coffee table.

Office Hours [Tuesday]
...perhaps bringing six dogs to the office hadn't been the best idea. Fraser had thought it would work out well when they all lay down almost immediately. He thought they'd all sleep for the duration of the day.

He was wrong.

Currently, Peanut was IN one of his desk drawers, pressed against the back and refusing to come out as he'd found an empty paperclip holder that he seemed to like batting into the side of the drawer and making a metallic pinging noise. Pickles was trying to eat his various books that he'd somehow pulled off the bookshelf.

Sprinkles and Reeses were actually wrestling and growling at each other, bunching up the rug and knocking into things as they rolled.

Dief was standing by the door, looking on with amusement at it all until Dorito used his bigger size and pushed Dief out of the way. Dief pushed back. And then Dief took off out the door with Dorito on his heels.

Fraser...felt a headache coming on and if Robin was on a bender or shopping somewhere, he was so breaking up with her for this.

[Door is open! There are six dogs, though. Beware. They're sweet, if hyper. And won't bite.]

When Fraser got up to find that Robin wasn't in bed, he didn't start to worry too much. Not yet. He wandered out into the living room, half hoping to find her on the couch and frowned when everything looked just as he left it last night.

The dogs rambled over to him and he knelt down, giving them each attention and trying not to act too worried so they wouldn't worry.

"She didn't come home last night, did she?" Fraser said to the dogs. Pickles licked his face and Peanut curled under his legs. Sprinkles, Reeses and Dorito all clambered for attention in his arms. "Does she do this often?"

He didn't suspect so. She loved the dogs way too much to just up and leave. He reached for his phone, trying her number and started to worry just a little more when he got no answer.

Frowning some more, he picked Peanut up with one arm, carrying the little dog because Fraser felt that Peanut was a little worried. It most definitely wasn't him worrying. He changed quickly, deciding that waiting around would be pointless and if she'd just had something to do and came back to him worrying, she'd laugh.

The dogs wouldn't let him out of their sight and with Robin seemingly not around, he really didn't want to leave them home alone.

So, he took them to work with him. Yes, all of them. All six dogs.

He'd only sat down a few minutes ago with the intention of watching television just for a bit before going into the kitchen to do make some hot chocolate and maybe something with ice cream. That plan had been foiled for the moment by the light doze that had attacked him.

Stupid weekend spent at work. And stupid comfortable couch and stupid warm dogs.

Well, no, the dogs weren't stupid at all. He wasn't sure where Robin had disappeared to (had she said shower? Or bedroom?) but she was somewhere and that made him a little more comfortable.

MCA -1 [Sunday Afternoon]
When Fraser arrived at the front door of the apartment, he almost knocked purely out of instinct. He managed to catch himself fairly quickly and shook his head. It'd only been four days and he was acting like a fool.

He took a moment to enjoy the cooler air and how it felt nice against the still sunburned (but not too bad) skin. The moment's enjoyment was long enough and then he was pushing open door, dropping his bang near the door and stepping inside.

He didn't see Robin right away and didn't call out just in case she was napping. He shut and locked the door quietly before looking for any signs that anyone was home.

[For she that also lives here]
